NDLTD ETD Awards Program
NDLTD ETD Awards Program
The Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations is pleased to announce the annual awards program to acknowledge the creative and administrative efforts of those in the Electronic Thesis and Dissertation community. This program has been established with financial support from Adobe Systems. Anyone - faculty, students, administrators and librarians - affiliated with an NDLTD member, is eligible for consideration! The awards recognize students who have created exemplary ETDs that demonstrate new dimensions of scholarship that can be explored through ETDs as well as individuals who have made a significant contribution to the worldwide ETD movement.

ETD 2005 Awards Program Nomination Criteria
Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of ETD experts. Awards will be presented at the ETD 2005 Conference dinner. Winners are not required to attend the Conference but they will be required to tape a video message that can be played at the Conference. Nominations are due by May 15th; the criteria for each award and nomination process are listed below.
We invite all NDLTD members to nominate individuals they feel deserve the recognition!
- Innovative ETD Award: ETDs submitted for this award must represent student efforts to transform the genre of the print dissertation through the use of ETDs. This award recognizes innovative use of software to create "cutting edge" ETDs. Use of renderings, photos and other multimedia objects that are included in the document will be considered as part of the innovation of the work. Each winner will receive $400.
- An ETD can be nominated by an administrator, faculty member, librarian or student (self nomination) affiliated with an NDLTD member university. For each of these awards each NDLTD member may submit up to 2 nominees, however, self-nominations are not included in the institutional count. The nomination for these awards should include links to the archived works, along with a brief statement about how the work uses technology to enhance the presentation of research.
- There will be up to three winners in the "PDF Format" category. Judges will consider documents in PDF format. The ETD must have been accepted for graduation in the calendar year 2004.
- There will be up to three winners in the "Open Format" category. Judges will consider documents not in PDF format. The ETD must have been accepted for graduation in the calendar year 2004.
- Innovative Learning through ETDs Award: A student whose professional life has been enhanced by the ETD process (not to include the value of the degree earned) will be recognized. Students should write a short essay (500-1,000 words) describing their ETD experience and how it improved/changed their graduate experience and their professional lives. The ETD may still be in the process of being completed. Self nomination is appropriate for this award. There may be up to 3 winners. Each winner will receive $200.
- ETD Leadership Award: This is open to members of the university community whose leadership and vision has helped raise awareness of the benefits of ETDs, and whose efforts have improved graduate education through the use of ETDs. Letters of nomination should include details about the individual's ETD related activities. There may be up to two winners each year. Each winner will receive $1,000.
Nominations should be sent to ETD Awards Committee Chair John Hagen ( West Virginia University) at by May 15, 2005.
